Student Spotlight: Jacob Webb

To College of Education student Jacob Webb, ā€œEducation means everything.ā€ As he prepares to graduate this spring, Jacob spent some time reflecting on his journey to °®¶¹app and his passion for education.

Jacob began his college career at UC Clermont, but the decision to switch was easy.

ā€œ°®¶¹app’s tuition, campus environment, and overall sense of safety made it the most appealing next step for me,ā€ he said.

His choice to pursue education comes from a passion for students and personal ties to education.

ā€œMy grandparents were educators, my mom is an educator, and now my wife and I are preparing to become educators as well. Education has shaped my life, and I want to continue shaping students’ lives through it,ā€ Jacob said. ā€œI love helping people and want to make a meaningful difference in students’ lives.ā€

Jacob’s passion for education was encouraged and deepened by meaningful connections with °®¶¹app faculty members and courses.

ā€œI’ve taken several math classes between Paulette Ebert and Dr. Kasten. They both made learning math a fun and unique experience and were always available when I needed help,ā€ he said. ā€œDr. Childs’ Social Studies Methods class was always a highlight. Our course discussions were engaging, insightful, and genuinely enjoyable.ā€

Part of being an education major comes with the experience of student teaching, which Jacob says has better prepared him for his career after graduation.

ā€œStudent teaching has been an interesting and rewarding experience, especially while still coming to campus twice a week for a math class. It’s been a big adjustment from being a college student, but I’ve built strong relationships with coworkers and students and have grown tremendously as a teacher.ā€

Jacob plans to go on to teach middle grades mathematics or social studies.

ā€œ°®¶¹app has prepared me to become the teacher I am today and has helped me build so many valuable connections.ā€

We are so proud of Jacob and the work he has done at the COE and cannot wait to see where he goes!
